Attack of the Luna

We knew that the wildlife up here in Vermont would be different from what we were used to, but we just weren't prepared for the reality. Up to now, we'd encountered only slight variants of what we were used to: deer, skunk, brown squirrels, lots of chipmunks, and the usual insecure dogs which become hysterical whenever Fifi walks by.

As usual, we were taking a trek to the end of the driveway for a before-bed communing with nature. To do so, we have to turn on the big floodlights so that we can see the end of the driveway. Little did we realize what lay ahead on our return. Here you see the floodlights, with the culprit masquerading as a leaf.

On our return up the path to the house, suitably releaved, the attacker lies in wait.

Immediately as we pass, it leaps to the attack!

It goes for the legs, the arms, the body, the face! Fortunately, with his powerful jaws and quick reflexes, Fifi was able to fend off the attacker until we could retreat into the relative safety of the house.
