Panforte is one of Fifi's favorite holiday treats. It's simple to make, it keeps and can be shipped safely and easily, and it can made in a variety of flavors to suite individual tastes.
- Our standard recipe, made with almonds, citron, orange peel, and spices (cinnamon, cloves, coriander). We also sometimes like to emphasize the honey by using a stronger flavored honey, such as mesquite.
- Blonde variations, where the spices are omitted (we sometimes leave in or increase the amount of coriander), and additional nuts are added
- Nut variations - hazelnets instead of almonds
- Chocolate variations - traditional panforte contains some cocoa, and that can be added in, or even melted chocolate blended in.
- Fruit variations - substitutions for the candied fruit. Those we make regularly include
- Apricot - using only dried apricot instead of any other dried fruit, or using it in combination with other fruit, such as orange peel. We generally only make apricot panforte in "blonde" form, to keep the apricot flavor from getting lost.
- Candied Ginger - finely diced candied ginger can be added in to the standard panforte recipe, or the panforte can be made solely with candied ginger and candied lemon peel, for those who really like ginger. We prefer this variation to have the traditional seasoning.
